About Us

Our Values – Who We Are

We recognise God’s sovereignty over all (Psalm 103 v19) and we are in awe of His grace towards us (Romans 5 v6-11)

We are to be a light to the world, glorifying God through the way we live our lives (Matthew 5 v14-16)

We are intentional and deliberate about reaching people with the “gospel of God” (Romans 1 v1)

We are committed to the authority of the Bible, learning from it and teaching what it says ( 2 Timothy 3 v16-17)

We seek more of the Holy Spirit in our personal lives and in our meetings together

Our Story

  • 2010

    Beginnings

The Ark Church started in 2010 when Steve & Ruth Hurd felt God calling them to leave York City Church, which they had planted in 2000, to start a new church plant in Huddersfield. They joined up with a team of people from all over the UK, including Liam & Amy Bunce from York (via Liverpool) and Jay & Julie Patel from Brighton.

  • Our Vision

Our Vision was to plant a church that would reach out to those outside of the church and to plant new churches in and around West Yorkshire.

  • 2012

    Church Launch

In September 2012 we started our public meetings in Greenhead College. Since then we have moved twice! We now meet at the North Light Gallery in Armitage Bridge.

  • 2016

    Ark Church Halifax

Matt and Sharon Cameron and family moved to Halifax in 2013 where there was about 20 people meeting regularly, all with a heart to see God grow our small gathering into a church that would serve Halifax and reach out to anyone and everyone with the good news that Jesus loves them personally.

The Ark Church Halifax started meeting every Sunday on Easter Sunday, 27th March 2016

  • The best way to try out and become a part of The Ark Church family is to start to come along to our Sunday meetings. We have been told time and time again that we are very friendly! You will soon get to know other members of the family and get invited along to other family groups and events. Come and join us.

Our Leadership Team

The Ark Church is led by a team of elders.

Steve Hurd

Lead Elder

Steve and Ruth Hurd moved to Huddersfield to start a new church plant in 2010. Previously they lived in York for 11 years, where Steve was the lead elder of York City Church (Newfrontiers). Moving to Huddersfield was a response to believing that God was calling them to be involved in planting a church that would plant other churches across West Yorkshire and beyond.

Steve and Ruth love walking in the countryside around Huddersfield and enjoying Huddersfield's classical music scene!

Jay Patel

Elder

Jay and Julie Patel moved to Huddersfield from Brighton in 2006 to start a new adventure "up North". They were part of Church of Christ the King (CCK) in Brighton.

Jay is passionate about worship and writes many of the songs we sing together. Julie is passionate about knitting!

Both couples invest in seeing the body of Christ grow into all that it can be ...
the beautiful Bride of Christ!

We are part of the ChristCentral sphere within the Newfrontiers group of apostolic leaders. We gather together with other churches in the sphere at an event called Devoted.

We are an active member of Hope Huddersfield working together with other churches in Huddersfield.
